Dear Choir Family Parents and Students-
Welcome to The Harbor at Louisville Middle School! I’m excited to begin my sixth year here at LMS. The program has a long-standing reputation for excellence, and it’s an honor to be a part of quality.
My experience includes 22 years as a choral director, music director, drama director, vocal coach, and piano teacher in Oklahoma, Nicaragua, in the Cherry Creek School district, and now in Boulder Valley. Members of my past music families have learned how to sing, play, and move with confidence, with excellent technique, with professionalism, and with passion. We expect the same from each other in our family at LMS.
Our program takes its shape primarily as a hybrid model of Orff-Schulwerk process, Kodaly, and choral. By combining singing, movement, and instrumental play, we learn how to compose, predict, hear, read, culturally analyze, theoretically analyze, improvise and perform music.
The success of our program is built around one rule – know when to blend in and know when to stand out. From this foundation we transform into whole musicians through our four pillars: professionalism, artistry, respect and passion. And if we follow these expectations, if we take risks and are comfortable failing so that we may learn, then the beauty of whole-music making will take place.
As a reminder, concerts are a required element of our Performing Arts curriculums at LMS. While concerts offer a momentary glance into the process of our daily classroom, they do present the opportunity for finality, and become lasting memories for both parents and students. If you are unable to participate in the concerts, this may not be the program for you. Of course, there are always specific circumstances that may occur. Please let me know of any excused absences as soon as possible so that we may plan accordingly. All concert dates and extra rehearsals are found on the LMS Performing Arts website: lmsperformingarts.org.
Please take a few minutes to CLICK HERE and READ/E-SIGN the Harbor expectations, info and grading packet.
It will help you understand what is expected of the teacher and student as we continue to build an outstanding music community together. Parents and students should read and e-sign this packet by Friday, August 24th (The link to the E-signature is located on the last page of the packet).
As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to call or email me at school. I look forward to meeting you all throughout the year!
