What it is: The LMS 7th/8th Grade Choir Overnight is a unique tradition going on 12 years. Our purpose is two-fold - to sing/dance/improvise in an intensive rehearsal atmosphere, and to continue to find ways of gaining confidence in our individual skill-sets and personalities.
What it looks like: We partner with Deb Kulcsar and Experiential Learning Associates (ELA- experientiallearningassociates.org) to help us facilitate activities outside of rehearsal times that focus on growth in self-confidence, interdependent thinking, and and group work strategies. Two master teachers join us on Day 1 to give accelerated classes in movement, singing and improvisation. Activities challenge students mentally and physically, but do not require any special physical ability or experience. Both days alternate between scheduled rehearsal times, meals and sessions with ELA. The days and nights are structured to the minute, while never losing focus of our students’ needs to enjoy the process. Our evening includes the traditional campfire, the Great Harbor Ball, and sleeping :).
Should my child go? Yes! While students are held accountable by their teachers to catch up on their work, make-up assignments, etc, students often come back from the overnight saying that this was an essential part of their growth in the class and in their school year.
