Move in space using highs, mediums and low levels. Stop wondering whether other students are watching you and stop checking to see what movements they're creating. For now, let the creative process begin with you. Remember, what you have to offer is exactly what you need.
And then sing canons - "All Things Shall Perish," "Coffee," and "Welcome." How to sing with confidence and technique? Start with filling the area near the diaphragm as you breath in, and letting the air out slowly...singing on top of the exhale like a surfer rides a wave to shore. Calm and focused. Listening and singing in two, three and four parts.
And a few brave souls experimenting with risk-taking and failing. A few brave soloists in the first week. The class with truck-tire eyes and feet of pace between their lips. How did they have the confidence to sing a solo this early in the year? Was I focused on the mistakes they made or the things they did well?
