Recording, Reflection, and Evaluation

9/29/2015

As musicians, we are constantly evaluating our performance in real-time and making the necessary adjustments.  Not a moment should go by that we aren't listening, both to ourselves and to those around us.

This week, the 7th and 8th graders are recording the first pieces that they got this year, and listening back.  We are evaluating our performances and identifying areas of excellence and those that could use some improvement.  We are always striving to develop the way in which we speak about music and refine our listening skills.

That might be why she couldn't hear it :) It's actually the only time they don't have that part!

pros:
1. the baritones did a really good job at measure 89 with articulations and keeping the tempo.
2. the trumpets did a good job at measure 70 with the energy and articulation
cons:
1. 2nd trumpets in measure 61, we don't plat that note with enough confidence, i can barely hear it when we come in, so we need to make that note (and its crescendo) a lot more confident and loud.
2. also trumpets, we really need to work on measures 98 - 101, it sounds like we are holding one long whole note through every measure (we aren't, we have lots of accents) we really need to work on that rhythm and articulation to become confident with it and be able to play it in the fortissimo that its written in.
